Prevention and Healthy Aging: Key Challenges in Optimizing Healthcare Pathways
Prevention and healthy aging are major challenges in managing healthcare pathways, especially as populations grow older. By enabling real-time data collection and analysis, integrated into accessible applications and digital solutions, health technologies provide unprecedented opportunities to develop a more personalized and preventive healthcare system.
To enhance citizens' well-being and address the efficiency, quality, and performance challenges of our healthcare system, prevention is a central pillar of public health policies. As part of the France 2030 Health Innovation Plan, the "Innovation in Prevention" acceleration strategy, coordinated by the French Health Innovation Agency, is endowed with €170 million to foster the development of innovative solutions. These initiatives, resulting from collaborations between the healthcare, research, and industrial sectors, aim to promote proven-effective technologies that advance prevention and public health objectives. However, the integration of health technologies (mobile health applications, connected devices, artificial intelligence, etc.) requires stakeholders to ensure they are used efficiently, ethically, securely, and inclusively. Accessibility remains a crucial concern, particularly for aging populations who must be able to benefit from these innovations without technological barriers.
As the global population ages rapidly, new societal and socio-economic challenges arise, particularly regarding technological adaptation. The "Healthy Aging Digital Challenge", announced in late 2022 as part of the digital health acceleration strategy, aims to develop innovative digital medical devices that are deployable in real-world settings and tailored to the specific needs of older individuals.
The continuous evaluation of these initiatives is essential to measure their impact, refine strategies, and optimize resource allocation. The goal is to build a sustainable healthcare ecosystem where each individual can benefit from an efficient and personalized healthcare pathway, ensuring better quality of life and well-being for all.
